Features: Bridge widening and road re-alignment scheme using a pre-cast concrete flexi arch.

The scheme involved excavating foundations directly adjacent to the carriageway (traffic remaining live under lane closure). The resulting excavation exposed a near vertical face of the embankment 12m high. This excavation was staged and supported by a substantial soil nailing exercise.

The Mullagh River was a sensitive breeding ground for salmon and trout and due to budget obligations the project had to be carried during the fish breeding season. Close relations with the DCAL fisheries and NIEA provided the appropriate mitigating measures and subsequent permissions to complete the work in a sensitive fashion.
